Delhi, Dhaka sign disaster management MoU

According to MHA, the MoU will extend mutual support in future, if either party requests for any support at the time of large-scale natural or man-made disaster in the field of relief, response, reconstruction, and recovery.


A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Bangladesh relating to the field of disaster management, resilience, and mitigation on Wednesday. Both the countries will benefit from the Disaster Management mechanisms in helping and strengthening each other in the area of mobility, feedback, and building capacity in the field of disaster management.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under MHA and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh have signed the MoU.  The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi was informed of the MoU on Wednesday which was signed in March, 2021. The MoU has been approved on cooperation in the field of Disaster Management, Resilience and Mitigation. According to MHA, the MoU will extend mutual support in future, if either party requests for any support at the time of large-scale natural or man-made disaster in the field of relief, response, reconstruction, and recovery.

In addition, both the countries will provide pieces of information to each other, remote sensing data, and other scientific data apart from sharing best practices and experience in the field of disaster response, recovery, mitigation, and capacity building for ensuring resilience, etc. According to the MoU, advanced information technology, early warning systems, remote sensing and navigation services, and expertise for disaster preparedness, response, and mitigation, the corporation would be increased by the two countries and progress in real-time data sharing.
