Delhi gets 27 new oxygen plants

The Delhi government on Wednesday inaugurated 27 oxygen plants and two cryogenic refilling plants across civil hospitals in the city.


During the deadly second wave of Covid-19, Delhi had witnessed long queues of patients at hospitals, excessive demand for oxygen beds and a crisis of medical resources and equipment. The national capital witnessed oxygen crisis and several people lost their lives due to lack of oxygen. 

Keeping in view the past situation, the Delhi government on Wednesday inaugurated 27 oxygen plants and two cryogenic refilling plants across civil hospitals in the city.

According to the statement given by Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain, “The Delhi government is taking complete protection considering Covid-19, in view of the arriving festival season. The government has already put in place a graded response network in the public domain. Presently, only three to five infected people are being tested positive for every 10,000 Covid-19 tests. The graded response network will kick in when the Capital will report five positive cases against 1,000 tests a day,” said the minister.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in May inaugurated five oxygen plants. As per the government statement, 73 PSA plants with a complete capacity of 77.80MT are being established in the city’s hospitals. Of these, 10 plants of 22.50MT have been commissioned in central government hospitals under the PM-Cares Fund, and these will be introduced on October 7, 2021.

Besides, the health minister on Wednesday inaugurated two bottling plants with a capacity of 12.5MT at Siraspur. These can refill 1,400 jumbo cylinders in 24 hours, according to the statement.
