Delhi Govt bans public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi

The DDMA has advised people to celebrate the festival at home.


With the ongoing Covid-19 scenario prevailing in the country as well as in view of the upcoming festivals that could spread of the virus, the Delhi government on Wednesday issued a ban on public celebration of the upcoming festival, Ganesh Chaturthi. The festival is celebrated with joy and devotees worship Lord Ganesha.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this decision has been taken by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). The DDMA said, "There will be no public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in the National capital in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.” The DDMA has advised people to celebrate the function at home, whereas the District Magistrate and the police commissioner will ensure that no idol has been set up in a tent in view of the celebration.

Whereas other states such as Karnataka have also issued celebration advisory implementing ban on distribution of prasad and food as well as procession.

Meanwhile, the national capital was hit hard by Covid-19 during the second wave of the pandemic. The state witnessed scarcity of oxygen and insufficient medical infrastructure, shortage of medicines and other health resources.
