Crime cases have jumped by 111perfent in the capital city…

The National capital is always in the forefront list when it comes to any sort of crime or major happening. As per the report the capital city is leading with the maximum number of crime cases in 2021.

Delhi saw a hike of 111 per cent in cybercrime as compared to the previous year in 2021, as per the latest report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

The report cited sexual exploitation to be the motive behind the highest number of such cases. Despite the Delhi Police setting up a social media center and a dedicated division to combat cybercrime, the number of cases has increased.

The data revealed that the majority of these incidents involved internet fraud, online harassment, and the publication of sexual content.

We have been registering more cases online after Covid. We have seen an increase in financial fraud and sextortion cases,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) KPS Malhotra said.

“We not only take cases from complaints but also take cognisance of social media posts,” he said.

Last year, there were over 356 documented instances of cybercrime, with the majority of the offenders being charged with publishing and transmitting sexually explicit material.

An analysis of the data showed that common motives for the crimes were fraud, sexual exploitation and extortion.
