Delhi metro Issues Advisory

Long queues witnessed outside metro gates

On Thursday, the Delhi metro rail corporation (DMRC) issued a travel advisory in the National Capital city. The city is under yellow alert and is facing travel restrictions and long queues are being observed outside the metro gates.

The capital city witnessed a long queue outside the metro gate. After which DRMC tweeted that, "An eight-coach metro train can generally carry about 2,499 passengers.

This comprises approximately 50 seated passengers and 259 standing passengers per coach. With 50 percent seating and no standing, each coach can now accommodate only about 25 passengers.

"The tweet also mentions, "Therefore, an 8-coach train can now accommodate approximately 200 passengers only. This is less than 10 percent of a train's normal carrying capacity. Therefore, travel only if absolutely essential."

The Delhi metro rail corporation (DMRC) also requested the passengers to keep extra time while traveling. This is because the entry has to be regulated to ensure compliance with appropriate Covid guidelines which results in a long queue outside the metro gates.

Delhi is reeling under incessant rise in cases of omicron. The city is also witnessing a yellow alert. Delhi's chief minister on Thursday said, "As the Covid positivity rate has now been above 0.5 percent for the past few days, we are enforcing level -1 (yellow alert) of the graded response action plan."

Also, the guidelines mention that only 50 percent capacity is permitted in the metro, bus while cinema halls, gym, spas and banquet hall have been shut in the city.
