Model Town hit and run case, 17-year-old minor involved


An eight year old girl, Ishika and her five year old sister Bhoomi, were killed when a speeding car hit them in Model Town in Northwest Delhi on Monday night while their six-year-old brother, Gaurav is admitted at AIIMS Trauma Center with injuries to his head spleen and kidney.

The incident took place near Gurudwara Nanak Piao Sahib around 11.45pm when the children along with their uncle, Milap singh were crossing the road to buy juice. A speeding white Honda City hit them, leaving the two children dead and the third one with grievous injuries.

Immediately, a passerby informed the police. The PCR van rushed Milap and Bhoomi to the Trauma centre at Civil Lines, while Jaspal Singh and his wife Shweta drove their other two children, Gaurav and Ishika to a hospital in the neighborhood where later Bhoomi and Ishika were later referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre,

Following an investigation, the 17-year-old accused was a class 12 student in a private school and the vehicle he was driving belonged to his uncle. After the accident, the minor fled from the spot but with inputs police apprehended the driver, who happened to be in juvenile. He was booked under Section 279(rash driving), 304A(causing death due to negligence), 337(causing hurt by rashly or dangerously as to endanger human life) of the Indian Penal Code. The Delhi police have also booked the father of the minor accused under the new MV act.

“The people on the site have given us a clue that the offending vehicle was a sedan. We are now obtaining CCTV footage from the accident location and we will go through it for more information.” Vijayanta Arya, DCP of Northwest Delhi said.

Since the vehicle ownership has changed three times, it took police a while to locate the vehicle. The car was finally found at a mechanic’s shop after the accused was arrested.
