Delhi, NCR Experience Heavy Downpour Results Traffic Jams

The temperature settled at 27.6 degrees Celsius

New Delhi: After witnessing harsh hot summer days, the national capital and NCR are getting some relief as it is shrouded by the heavy clouds of the downpour.  Since morning, many parts of the city that received rain this morning included East of Kailash, Burari, Shahdara, Patparganj, ITO crossing, India Gate, Ghaziabad and Noida. The temperature settled at 27.6 degrees Celsius.

As per the visuals, various parts of the city showed submerged roads while traffic chaos was also reported during the morning rush hour. Delhi Traffic Police also issued a traffic advisory for the commuters.

Looking into the weather conditions, The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in the tweet, earlier morning, confirmed the advancement of the southwest monsoon into the city. It has also warned of heavy rainfall in parts of the city on Thursday and moderate rainfall on Friday. The maximum temperature will come down to 34-35 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, the IMD said, "Southwest Monsoon has advanced into entire Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, some parts of Rajasthan, entire Delhi, some parts of Punjab and Haryana today, the 30th June 2022."

Weather experts suggest the monsoon will yield good rainfall in the first 10 days and help cover the rain deficit in Delhi. The city has received just 24.5 mm of rainfall against the normal 66.7 mm since June 1, all of it being recorded during June 16-20.

Earlier, the IMD reported, "Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of West Delhi (Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Patel Nagar), NCR (Dadri) Sohana (Haryana) during the next 2 hours," the RWFC New Delhi, IMD's local weather forecasting Twitter handle, posted at 14:25.

In the morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the possibility of thunder or lightning on Tuesday.
