Delhi Primary Schools Closed Until November 10

Due to Air Pollution...

In light of ongoing high air pollution levels in the national capital, Education Minister Atishi announced on Sunday the extension of the closure of primary schools in Delhi until November 10.

The education minister, using her previously known Twitter account, shared the update. She also mentioned that schools for students in grades 6-12 can opt for online classes during this period.

On Friday, the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, declared a holiday for both government and private primary schools in the national capital due to the pollution levels reaching the 'Severe' category.

On the sixth consecutive day, Delhi was shrouded in a thick haze as pollution levels reached the severe plus category on Sunday. Unfavorable wind conditions, notably calm winds during the night, were the primary contributing factors to this alarming situation.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions, in conjunction with emissions from vehicles, paddy straw burning, firecrackers, and other local sources of pollution, collectively contribute to the hazardous air quality levels observed in Delhi-NCR during the winter season each year.

According to experts, due to the significant contribution of stubble burning to Delhi's air pollution and unfavorable meteorological conditions, there is no expected relief from the poor air quality for the next two days.

As per the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, it is predicted that the air quality will persist in the 'severe' category until November 7.

Delhi's Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, has penned a letter to Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, urging for the prohibition of non-compliant BS-VI vehicles from entering Delhi from neighboring states in the Delhi-NCR region.
