Delhi Ready To Phase Out Single-Use Plastic From July 1: Officials

Delhi gears up ahead of pollution!


With the arrival of winter season the capital city reels with incessa pollution like scenario. Whereas the national capital is ready to phase out single use of plastic from july 1.


The Delhi government is geared up with its action plan, along with the stakeholders including Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Urban Local Bodies, General Administration Department and the Education department, officials said.


The 19 identified single use plastic (SUP) items include earbuds, plastic sticks for balloons, flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (Thermocol), plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweets boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron and stirrers.


According to an official statement, The Special Task Force has set up a plastic waste monitoring dashboard. Door-to-door sensitization and outreach campaigns have also been organised to ensure elimination of SUPs from July 1, the officials said.


The Environment Department will also run a campaign to ensure compliance with the ban on 19 identified single-use plastic items starting July 1 and close down all manufacturers, suppliers, stockists, dealers and sellers found violating the orders, officials said.


So far, 19 markets of Delhi have been surveyed by the institute to check usage of compost plastic bags and none were found to be using or storing compost plastic bags.


To facilitate prompt grievances disposal, the 'Delhi Green' app has been upgraded. All the District Magistrates (DMs) of Delhi have been requested to ensure zero inventories by June 30.
