Delhi's air quality to deteriorate from today, predicts IMD

The CPCB said on Wednesday at 7 am, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 167 which comes under the moderate category and is a big jump as on Tuesday AQI was 69.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the air quality in the national capital will deteriorate from today.

According to the statement given by the IMD,'' From today, the air quality will start deteriorating again. Temperatures are also expected to start falling this week," said a senior IMD official.

Every year, Delhi witnesses an increase in the pollution level during the arrival of winter season. In addition to this, stubble burning in neighbouring states such as Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana acts as the major cause of low air quality.

Whereas with rain showers in the city, Delhi on Tuesday witnessed a clear sky as well as the air quality index (AQI) shifted from moderate to the good category.

However, the central pollution control board (CPCB) said on Wednesday at 7 am, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 167 which comes under the moderate category and is a big jump as on Tuesday the AQI was 69.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has also implemented several initiatives and programmes to curb the pollution in the city, including installation of smog towers in the hub of the city.
