Delhi schools will not hold physical classes till Class 8


The Delhi government on Thursday announced that schools in the national capital could not hold physical classes for 2021-22 until further notice due to the continuing increase in cases of COVID-19 cases. However, students in grades 9 to 12 can only be called to schools for providing subject guidance in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and with parental consent.

According to a notice issued by the Directorate of Education, students of any class should not be physically invited to schools for the 2021-22 Education session until further notice.

"However, teaching and learning activities can start on April 1 for students with digital means of Education Lesson 2021-22," reads the notice.

The notice went on to say that students in classes 9 and 12 (Session 2020-21) may be called to the school only for providing student guidance and support in Mid Term Examination / Pre-Board Examination / Annual Examination / Board Examinations, Practical Assessment, Project Work, with proper COVID safety measures and parental consent.

The Delhi government had closed schools in March 2020 due to closures imposed by COVID-19 to contain the spread of coronavirus. However, schools reopened in Delhi for Grade 10 and 12 learners on January 18 and Grade 9 and 11 on February 5.

On Thursday the national capital reported 2,790 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total figure to 6,43,686. Delhi's Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal convened an emergency meeting at his residence on Friday to discuss an 'action plan' to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital.
