Delhi Teen Attacks Random Girl with Acid-Like Substance

Incident Linked to Disagreement with Girlfriend

On Sunday, Delhi Police arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of throwing a substance resembling acid on a minor girl in Burari. The incident occurred on January 24 afternoon as the girl was picking up her 10-year-old cousin from a school in Shastri Park Extension.

In the preliminary investigation, authorities disclosed that the boy randomly targeted the girl near a school in Burari. He admitted to the crime during questioning, and sources suggest that the assault occurred following a disagreement with his girlfriend.

"The suspect revealed a general aversion towards girls and asserted that he selected the victim randomly. He had no prior acquaintance with the victim," stated the official.

The girl endured an assault with a chemical, resulting in a "burn-like sensation, itching, and irritation in her eyes, neck, and nose." Following the attack, she was promptly taken to a nearby hospital and later discharged after receiving treatment.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered under sections 326(b) and 341 of the Indian Penal Code at Burari Police Station. To apprehend the assailant, the police established three distinct teams for investigation.

"The victim had no documented history of personal animosity, spurned advances, or romantic involvement with a boy, rendering the incident seemingly random. Regrettably, the absence of surveillance cameras at the crime site complicated the investigation," explained Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Manoj Kumar Meena to news agency PTI.

The police have successfully retrieved the caustic powder employed in the attack, along with a water solution, a small bottle, clothes, bag, and the handkerchief mask. Additionally, the attire worn by the accused during the assault has been recovered.
