Delhi will have 12,000 buses by 2024; will also teach urban farming : CM Kejriwal

Delhi Cabinet Has Decided To Initiate For The National Capital's People


Delhi will have approximately 12,000 buses in its fleet by December 2024, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday.

In a cabinet meeting which was conducted on Wednesday, the Kejriwal government decided to focus upon bringing the national capital’s transportation sector to the international standards.

"Buses are the most important mode of transportation for specially travelling in Delhi", CM Kejriwal said.

However, the buses have not been bought for several years now. 

Therefore, throughout the past one and a half years of the Kejriwal government's administration. This has changed.Kejriwal further added, "We have bought many AC and electric buses".

According to him in their cabinet meeting, the government decided and granted permission to buy 1,950 buses. Estimated time for arrival of these buses is approximately by August-September this year.And certainly by next September, all of them will be on roads,” he said.

Delhi has hit roadblocks so far in buying buses for almost a decade due to fewer companies bidding for the same. Followed by quite stringent annual maintenance contracts.

However, Chief Minister Kejriwal said that the city now has almost a fleet of 7,200 buses.

Another decision was taken in this Delhi Government's Cabinet meeting,

They will be teaching Urban Farming through regular workshops conducted by the government for the spreading awareness regarding the same.
