Devastating Nepal Earthquake Claims 132 Lives

The Nepal police confirmed on Saturday that the death toll in Nepal caused by a powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck late on Friday has now reached 132. Additionally, state-run Nepal Television reported that over 140 people have sustained injuries in the Jajarkot and Rukum districts of Western Nepal.

 

According to officials at the National Earthquake Measurement Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Lamidanda area in Jajarkot.

 

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the earthquake in Nepal.

 

On his official X account, PM Narendra Modi shared his sentiments, stating, "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is prepared to provide any necessary assistance. Our thoughts are with the grieving families, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured."

 

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's office has announced the mobilization of all three security agencies in the country for the prompt rescue and relief of the injured.

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dahal, also known as 'Prachanda,' conducted an inspection of the earthquake-affected areas in the country on Saturday.

 

The country's home ministry has reported that there are also incoming reports of injuries and property damage from other districts, including Dailekh, Salyan, and Rolpa.

 

The injured individuals are receiving treatment at a hospital in Jajarkot, which is approximately 500 kilometers to the west of Kathmandu.

 

Nepal, located in the Himalayan region, frequently experiences earthquakes as they are a common natural phenomenon in the area.
