On June 1, A differently-abled teenager was allegedly gang-raped in Karnataka. Police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Madiwalar age 38. Another accused, identified as Yashwanth (38), is absconding.

Both the accused hailed from Shivamogga district, while the crime took place at Tiluvalli village in Haveri district, reported The Times of India.

The survivor, a 19-year-old bedridden girl, used to be alone at home after her parents left to work and her younger sister left for school.

According to the report by the Times of India, the accused, who ran a shamiana business, were in Tiluvalli village on business for the past several days.

They had noticed that the survivor used to be lying on a cot outside the house till her family returned.

On Tuesday, they snuck up to the house, gagged the girl, took her inside the house and committed the crime, said the police. The younger sister, who had returned from school, caught the accused in the act.

After hearing the younger sister’s screams, the accused bolted.

“They had also stuffed a cloth inside the victim’s mouth so she could not scream for help. Although the survivor is bed-ridden, she can talk and she gave us clues to identify the accused,” said Gadeppa Gunjatagi, sub-inspector, Adur police station.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s parents, police managed to nab Madiwalar.

“Yashwant is still absconding, but we will nab him within a day. They will not be spared for this heinous crime,” said Gunjatagi.
