Doctor coned into buying ‘Aladdin’s lamp’ after genie show

Two men arrested in duping a doctor with fake lamp for 93,000 USD


Laeek Khan, a resident of Meeraut, Uttar Pradesh lodged a police complaint on Sunday, after two men allegedly duped him into buying an “Aladdin’s lamp” for $93,000 i.e. seven million in Indian Rupees.  The two men promised him that the genie lamp would bring good fortune and wealth to him.

The third suspect is a female. “The wife of these men was also involved in the fraud. She is on the run,” said a senior police officer, Amit Rai. He added, “The cheats had struck the deal for much more but the doctor had paid about seven million rupees.”

The complaint filed stated that, one of the two men pretended to be an occultist and made a “Jinn” appear from the lamp but when Khan asked if he could touch the  genie or take the lamp, they saying it might cause him harm. Khan later realized the “genie” was actually just one of the men in disguise.

“Gradually they started telling me about a baba whom they claimed also visited their home. They started brainwashing me and asked me to meet this baba,” according to the victim. He then meet the baba “who seemed to perform such rituals”.

“The men have also cheated other families using the same Modus Operandi. The amount of money involved runs into several million rupees,” said Amit Rai. “The two men were arrested and will remain into custody after charges being filed, while the woman is still on a run,” he further added.
