Doctor Quits Surgery Midway Due to Tea Dispute

Probe Initiated into Shocking Medical Negligence Case

In a disturbing case of medical negligence, a doctor in a Nagpur government hospital left the operating room midway due to anger over not being served tea. This incident occurred at the Mauda tehsil health center on November 3, where eight women were scheduled for family planning surgery.

Having completed surgeries on four women and administering anesthesia to the others, Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi requested tea from the hospital staff. Unfulfilled, he abruptly left the operation theatre without completing the remaining procedures.

Upon Doctor Bhalavi's sudden departure, the hospital administration reached out to the district medical officer. Another doctor was promptly sent to complete the surgeries for the remaining anesthetized women.

The district administration has initiated an inquiry into the incident to investigate and address the matter.

Nagpur Zilla Parishad's CEO, Soumya Sharma, mentioned over a telephone call that a three-member committee has been established to investigate the case. The doctor's actions will be addressed accordingly based on the findings of the committee's report.

Soumya Sharma provided details on the incident, stating, "On Friday, November 3, a family planning operation took place in the government hospital of Mauda tehsil. Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi from RH Government Hospital of Ramtek tehsil conducted four operations but left four unfinished, as reported by the Panchayat Samiti member."

I took swift action, contacting the health officer to ensure doctors were sent for the remaining operations. Learning that the doctor left due to not receiving tea, I promptly initiated an investigation, forming a three-member committee to address the situation.

Once the report is received, appropriate action will be taken. It's indeed a serious matter; leaving operations over tea is unacceptable. If necessary, action under section 304 of the IPC will be considered against such doctors.
