Donald Trump announces to launch new social media platform TRUTH Social

Trump was earlier either banned or suspended from major social media firms in view of violating their policies after the Capitol attack.

Former US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will launch a new social media platform, "TRUTH Social" as he was earlier either banned or suspended from major social media firms including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube in view of violating their policies after the Capitol attack on January 6.

Trump accused the tech giants of silencing the voices of people who oppose them and claimed that the new platform would "stand up to the tyranny of big tech." According to the press release by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), TRUTH Social will be launched in November and will be accessible to the "invited guests" only, following which it will have a "nationwide rollout" within the first three months of next year.

Trump said in a statement, "We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced," taking a dig at President Joe Biden's stand on the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan.

During Trump's presidency, social media giants were under immense pressure to ban him as his posts were often criticized by many. His posts were removed from Twitter and Facebook which were considered "misleading." His supporters had allegedly attacked the Capitol. The riots shook people all over the world and were condemned by the Democrats as well as the Republicans. Trump had addressed a rally before the siege in which he had asked the supporters to "fight much harder" and "walk down to the Capitol.... because you will never take back our country with weakness."
