DRDO Designed Sub-Machine Guns Trail Successful.

Sub-machine guns made in India complete successful trials.


The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) announced on Thursday that they had designed a 5.56x30mm sub machine gun and the trails it had undergone have been completed successfully.The successful trials completion has made the way for this gun’s induction in the force said a statement issued by the defence ministry. In a series of trials the final trials were successfully completed on Monday meeting all the General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) set up by the Indian Army was read in the issued statement.“This was the last leg in the series of user trials which have been carried out in extreme temperature conditions in summers and in high altitudes in winter” the issued stamen mentioned.

DRDO mentioned that the 5.56x30mm is a gas operated semi-automatic weapon and it can fire more than 700 rounds per minute. This was made by DRDO in collaboration with Joint Protective Venture Carbine (JVPC).The carbine has a range of more than 100m and weighs about 3Kgs. The high reliability, low recoil, retractable butt, ergonomic design and single hand firing capability features would be the key attraction of the weapon.

Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) operates under the defence ministry. The statement noted that “JVPC has successfully met the stringent performance criteria of reliability and accuracy in addition to quality trials conducted by the DGQA”.The ministry’s statement noted that the home Ministry has already passed the trials of the weapon and the action of procurement has already begun by the central armed police forces and various state police organizations.
