Earth Hour is a global initiative held annually on the last Saturday of March, aiming to raise awareness about climate change and promote energy conservation. This year, it will take place on March 23rd.

 

In observance of Earth Hour, individuals worldwide will symbolically commit to the planet Earth by turning off their lights for one hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time.

 

Earth Hour, initiated and organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), aims to encourage individuals worldwide to preserve energy. For its 18th edition this year, participants from 190 countries and territories are expected to join by switching off non-essential lights on March 23.

 

According to The Print, the power distribution company BSES has urged Delhi residents to unite with the world for a brighter future by participating in the event.

 

According to an ANI report, Vani Prasad, the Principal Secretary of Environment, Forest, Science, and Technology, convened a meeting on Tuesday with senior officials and WWF for Nature members to discuss arrangements for Earth Hour in Telangana.

 

According to Hindustan Times, last year in India, more than 150 landmarks, monuments, governmental buildings, educational institutions, and offices joined in by turning off their lights for an hour during Earth Hour. Additionally, WWF-India organized 13 cyclothons nationwide to attract more participants.

Earth Hour originated in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, as an event focused on raising awareness about climate change. Since its inception, it has grown into a global movement, inspiring millions of people worldwide to switch off non-essential lights for one hour.

 

Earth Hour was initially observed on March 31, 2007, at 7:30 pm local time in Sydney, urging residents to turn off their lights for one hour.
