ECI Launches e-EPIC Card On National Voters Day

E-Epic card launched by Election Commission

January 25 marks 11th National Voters Day and the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced the e-EPIC (Electronic Election Photo Identity Card) and the Union minister Ravishankar Prasad launched the e-EPIC program and the digital voter ID cards among five new voters. To mark the anniversary of the poll body the e-EPIC is being launched and for the first time the voter identity cards will be on digital formats like any other identity card like the Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license etc.

In the first phase only new voters will be able to download the digital voter cards and for the rest the digital copies will be available next month. The e-EPIC will be available in a PDF format and the cards can be stored in a Digilocker. The cards will also be carrying a secure QR code. This process of digitization of voter ID cards will avoid the delays in getting hold of an EPIC with faster delivery and easy accessibility.

PM Modi on the occasion of National Voters Day took to his twitter handle and appreciated the contribution of the ECI in strengthening the democratic fabric and ensuring smooth conduction of all sorts of polls in the country. The official statement of the ECI read “Dedicated to the voters of the country the day is utilized to spread awareness among voters and to perform informed participation in the electoral process. New voters are felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) in the NVD functions.”
