Encounter Staged By Army Captain For Rs 20L Asserts Chargesheet.

J&K police charge sheet asserts that the Amshipura encounter was tagged by an Army Captain for 20L rupees.

An alleged ‘fake encounter’ in Jammu Kashmir’s Sophian region last year in July in which three youths were killed had the involvement of a Captain from the Indian Army. In a charge sheet by the police it reveals that the army Captain had planned a conspiracy along with two civilians to receive a reward amount worth Rs 20 lakh. The police said that the accused captain who belongs to the 62 Rashtriya Rifles “furnished false information to misled the senior officer and for getting” an FIR filed in order to “tailor fit his motive of grabbing the prize money in furtherance of criminal conspiracy.”

The charge sheet states “Captain Bhoopinder Singh had also fired at the victims even before his men could lay a cordon of that area.” Presently the army has taken Mr Singh into their custody and he might face the proceedings of Court Martial.

At Amshipura on 18 July, 2020 an encounter took place in which 3 men- Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammed Ibrar from the district of Rajouri were first labeled as ‘terrorists’ and later killed. In relation to this case the name of the two civilians- Tabish Nazir and Bilal Ahmed Lone are also mentioned in the police charge sheet. JK police confirmed that Lone had already recorded his statement of confession in front of the magistrate.

Several reports surfaced on various social media platforms which stated that the 3 young men were not terrorists and following that a Court of Inquiry was ordered by the Indian Army and the probe was concluded in September last year. The disciplinary proceedings had then begun by the Army. The charge sheet mentions 75 witnesses in support of the findings and had technical evidence which had the call records of the accused person having an involvement in the case. The four army personnel who were a team of Mr Singh were asked to cordon off from different locations on reaching the location and have also recorded their individual statements.

The three young men were identified and were confirmed through DNA tests and in October their bodies were transferred to the families in Baramulla.
