People are always conscious about their smiles a often end up hiding their beautiful natural smile because of discolouration. We often consume food items that further lead to discolouration of the teeth. With time the teeth loose the bright sparkle and becomes coloured, and stained. While teeth whitening facilities are rampant all over, it often includes using chemicals for bleaching the teeth. This further leads to more health concerns.

Nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee, shared a list of food items that should be avoided in order to maintain the bright sparkle every time we smile.

* Black Coffee ~ your morning brew might be one of the main culprits behind your stained teeth. Anjali said that black coffee holds the topmost spot in the list of food items that cause stain in teeth. Coffee contains tannins, a type of chemical compound called a polyphenol, than can cause color compounds to stick your teeth. Drinking coffee daily is probably going to stain your teeth in the end. You can try to drink green tea or white tea rather than black since these kinds of tea contain fewer tannins than the traditional black.

* Tea ~ Tea is a healthy drink, but it may not be the best choice for keeping your teeth white. Like coffee, tea contains tannins that can stain your teeth. Anjali recommended that black tea should be avoided and replaced with green tea and herbal tea.

* Red wine ~ Red wine is a staple many people drink to unwind at the end of the day or enjoying drinking it or social gatherings such as parties, dinners, and special events. The much loved alcoholic beverage is a beautiful deep red that leaves many wondering if drinking it will stain teeth. The taste of red wine, the benefits and relaxation it offers are reasons many people like to drink it on a regular basis. It can damage your teeth and cause discolouration.

* Soy sauce ~ The dark brown color of soy sauce can stain your teeth when you add it to your food. Soy sauce is also very high in sodium.

* Tobacco ~ Any kind of tobacco use can bring about some serious damage to your mouth. The fact is that tobacco use can be difficult to stop. Even if you have tried before, there is a good chance you didn't stick with it. That means you doing even more damage to your smile by continuing to use tobacco. The nicotine in tobacco products will cause yellow and brown residue on teeth. This can be difficult to remove.

* Colas ~ Dissolved carbon dioxide is what gives carbonated beverages like Soda and Cola their pleasant fizz. This makes drinking carbonated beverages enjoyable, but also provides an ideal environment for bacteria to populate. Bacteria feed on the sugars found in these beverages and, combined with the acid content of carbonated drinks, can act swiftly to erode tooth enamel and cause tooth decay. However, tooth decay is not the only problem with carbonated beverages. They can also cause your teeth to become dingy and stained at a much higher rate.
