Facebook Floated Dating Services In 32 European Countries After February Delay

Facebook dating facility in Europe kick-starts

The social media giant Facebook Inc. had delayed the rollout of Facebook Dating in Europe in February 2020 after queries were raised by the Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) who is the prime regulator of the European Union for the the world’s biggest technology firms including Facebook Inc.

February 13 was booked as the launch date and DCP was informed on February 3, which raised concerns about such a short notice being given to them. DCP also didn’t receive any documentation regarding data protection impact assessment or decision-making processes that had been taken up by Facebook Inc.

Facebook Inc. on Wednesday launched its dating facilities in 32 European countries. Facebook Dating was already launched in the United States of America in September last year. Currently it’s services are available in 20 different countries.

The first name and age of the users will be taken from their Facebook profiles and those information's cannot be edited or altered on the dating service, last names shall not be displayed and rest the user can choose whether or not to share other personal details on their profiles said  Kate Orseth Facebook Dating’s Product Manager. If a user opts to create a dating profile of himself/herself their profile could easily be deleted later without deleting their Facebook accounts.

The ‘Secret Crush’ feature allows you to explore potential relationships with people you already know on Facebook/Instagram .Facebook dating doesn't suggest Facebook friends as potential matches but if you choose the ‘Secret Crush’ feature deliberately you can choose up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers whoever you are interested in.

Anyone who is blocked in your Facebook profile will not show as a potential match to the  Facebook Dating user. Facebook Inc. also declared that the privacy of the user is protected  with romantic activities kept out of the timeline .
