Farmers Block The NH And Railway In Jalandhar

The farmers added in their statement that they will not lift the blockade until their demands were met.


Farmers who wanted to raise sugar cane prices today blocked train tracks and a national road in Jalandhar, affecting train and vehicle traffic.

As per the railway officials of the Ferozepur division, around 50 trains were canceled and nearly 54 diverted or interrupted due to farmers. Several farmers launched open-ended agitation on Friday to pressurise the Punjab government to accept their demands for outstanding sugar cane quotas and rising sugar cane prices.

Today, they added in their statement that they will not lift the blockade until their demands were met. Emergency vehicles were allowed to circulate. Protesters blocked the JalandharPhagwara section of the national road near the village of Dhanowali in Jalandhar District.

The blockade affected traffic to and from Jalandhar, Amritsar and Pathankot, although the administration diverted traffic to some alternative routes. Farmers on the JalandharChaheru line blocked the LudhianaAmritsar and LudhianaJammu railways in Jalandhar, affecting several trains, including the Amritsar New Delhi (02030) and Amritsar New Delhi Shane Punjab (04068).
