Farmers held Bharat Bandh today; blocked train tracks, highways

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said that the Bharat Bandh was successful and they had full support of farmers.


Farmers on Monday blocked railway tracks and highways at several places as they held Bharat Bandh from 6am to 4pm against the three contentious farm laws. The traffic came to a halt in Punjab and Haryana as national and state highways, railway tracks were blocked by farmers.

Reportedly, farmers protested at around 350 places in Punjab. Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said that the Bharat Bandh was successful and they had full support of farmers. He added that they are ready for talks with the government.

Several trains were also cancelled for the day. Delhi-Meerut Expressway was blocked near the Ghazipur protest site and heavy traffic was witnessed near Delhi borders. Government and private offices, educational institutions, shops, industries and commercial establishments were closed across the country today but emergency services remained functional.
