Farmers Initiate March Towards Delhi

Police Intensify Border Security

The Delhi Police has ordered its personnel to keep a close watch at the Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders, as well as railway stations, metro stations, and bus stands, in response to protesting farmers' plans to arrive in Delhi for their protest on Wednesday.

On March 3, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), the two leading organizations behind the farmer's movement, issued a call for farmers from all over the country to gather in Delhi on Wednesday.

"A senior police officer stated, 'We had temporarily removed barriers for commuters at the Singhu and Tikri borders. However, the deployment of police and paramilitary personnel remains in place, ensuring strict, round-the-clock vigilance.'"

The officer also mentioned that additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at railway and metro stations, as well as bus stands.

"The officer emphasized, 'No one will be permitted to violate the law.'"

The police stated that checks will be intensified at various points, potentially causing traffic congestion in the city.

On March 3, farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal urged farmers nationwide to converge in Delhi on Wednesday for a protest. They also called for a four-hour countrywide rail roko on March 10 to support their demands, including a legal assurance on minimum support price for crops.

He emphasized that the sacrifices made by farmers will not be in vain and pledged to persist in the struggle until their demands are fulfilled.

The protesting farmers have been encamped at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana following the interruption of their "Delhi Chalo" march by security forces.

They initiated their march on February 13, but clashes erupted at the border of Haryana and Punjab when security forces intervened, halting their progress.
