Farmers Talks Cancelled As Meeting Between Amit Shah And Farm Leaders Fail

Meeting Between Amit Shah And Farm Leaders Ends without Conclusion

On Tuesday evening the meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and farmers representatives to resolve the deadlock on the three farm laws introduced by the center did not see any success as both the parties firmly stood on their positions. The meeting was held with eight farmer representatives which started at 9 PM at Pusa Institute. The Bharatiya Kisan Union Ugrahan who is considered the biggest farmers’ union of Punjab was not invited for the meeting.

The farmer representatives denied accepting the offer of amending the laws by the Government and sticked to their demands of completely scraping off of the contentious farm laws. The sixth big meeting with the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar scheduled to be held on December 9 is now cancelled.

The farmer organizations on Tuesday during the meeting with Amit Shah were given a presentation and a written proposal will be sent today to the protesting farmers by the government with the amendments mentioned clearly which the center wishes to do in the farm laws.

Today at the Singhu border the farmers will be meeting at noon to demand the roll back of the farm laws which they fear will reduce their incomes and will also leave them at the mercy of the corporate houses.

The government is under huge criticism over this issue, so they are keen that the farmers accept their amendments offers so that the acceptance would become a face saver for the government.
