Accused opened fire and suffered bullet injury, two policemen suspended for their negligence

On Sunday, following a fight in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan a 46-year-old man and his son were allegedly shot dead. The accused who opened fire at them also suffered a bullet injury and is presently undergoing treatment. While two policemen have been suspended for their negligence.

It started with a verbal fight between Surendra Singh and Lakhan Sharma on Saturday night during which the former slapped the latter. Although the fight was dissolved as Assistant Sub Inspector Vijay Pal and Head Constable Man Singh of Kotwali Police Station who were patrolling that night reached the spot-on time and pacified the duo.

However, on Sunday morning members from both sides gathered at Surendra Singh's residence in Subhash Nagar to resolve the matter. During the meeting, Lakhan Sharma's brother Dilawar opened fire at Surendra Singh and his son Sachin (17), the police said. Dilawar then called the Kotwali Police Station and alleged that Surendra Singh had opened fire at him first but the claim was busted after police reached the spot and questioned the locals.

All three were taken to the district hospital where Surendra Singh and his son succumbed to the injuries while Dilawar who too was shot in the leg is still being treated. The bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem examination and Dilawar is taken under the police custody.

The victim’s family members protested outside the hospital by blocking the road and demanding action be taken against the accused while senior police officer Devendra Kumar suspended the ASI and the Chief police for negligence. The investigation is still underway.
