"Fill the jail" protest started by Imran Khan's part in Pakistan

Purpose behind the movement was to achieve "true freedom"

Pakistan: In Islamabad, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party has launched a "Jail Bharo Tehreek" (fill the jails) protest to "protect the fundamental rights of the people”.

On Wednesday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) began from Lahore eastern city, where in some areas goverment have imposed restrictions on public gatherings.

Imran Khan, in series of tweets laid out the reasons for the “peaceful and non-violent protest against the attack on our constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights”.

“We are facing sham FIRs (first information reports filed by police) and NAB (non-bailable) cases, custodial torture, attacks on journalists and social media people,” he wrote.

The reason behind the movement was to achieve "true freedom" in Pakistan, khan said in a video message shared on PTI's twitter page.

This campaign will help to take you to a free and happy Pakistan. And this will only possible when the state protects your fundamental rights," he added.
