Fire in Harkesh Nagar, 40 slums burnt to ashes

Apart from 2 factories, vehicles and many animals were burnt, people got out safely


In the Okhla Industrial Area, a fierce fire broke out in the Sanjay Colony located behind the Harkesh Nagar metro station of the Metro's Violet Line. A few slums, two factories and their godowns, some carts and some animals living in the cabs were engulfed in flames. All the people living in the township came out safely in time. Some people suffered minor injuries during the chaos. The fire could be controlled after 5 hours of hard work.

More than 50 firefighters arrived at the scene with 26 fire brigade personnel, with the help of CISF personnel and locals, to control the fire. In this incident, about 40 slums and a tempo burnt down. Also 6 animals were killed in the grip of fire.

At the time of the incident, there was a lot of difficulty in extinguishing the fire due to high wind. The CISF barrack remains near the metro station. He was also threatened by fire. The sniffer dogs present there were sent to a safe place. Later CISF staff also helped to extinguish the fire. Lakhs worth of goods were gutted in the fire. The cause of the fire has not been clear yet, but it is feared that the fire could be caused due to external reasons.

Delhi Fire Service director Atul Kumar Garg said that the control room received information at 2:23 am Sunday. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has demanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the slum dwellers.
