Thousands of makeshift dwellings were set ablaze after a sudden fire broke out in the settlement of refugee Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh on Monday. A video shot by a resident heard the sound of a blast through the Balukhali camp at Cox's Bazar in which people were seen in burning huts and tents. These temporary shelters are in the southern part of the country inhabited by millions of refugees from Myanmar. According to the information received, this fire broke out in the Balukhali camp built in Cox's Bazar area, which spread to a very large area in a short time. The temporary shelters in the refugee camp are made of tents, plastic sheets and thick polyethylene sheets.

United Nations Refugee Agency spokeswoman Louise Donovan in Cox's Bazar has said that the rescue teams became active as soon as the accident was reported and they saved a huge loss of life and property. According to eyewitnesses, many refugees are feared dead in the accident but no UN or local administration official has confirmed the death toll. More than a million Rohingya refugees who fled Myanmar in 2017 live in Cox's Bazar and the camps around it. The United Nations and many other Muslim countries help them with living and food.
