Firing at Bathinda Military Station, 4 jawans killed

The incident is suspected to have fratricidal angle to it


Four Army personnel were murdered in a shooting incident occurred within Bathinda Military Station in Punjab early Wednesday. The area has been blocked off, and "joint investigations with Punjab Police are being coordinated to establish the facts of the case," according to the Army.

 

"It has been determined that four Army jawans from an artillery unit died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained during the incident." "No other injuries to personnel or loss/damage to property have been reported," the Army's HQ South Western Command stated in a statement.

 

The state police have used the term “fratricide” to talk about this case. Punjab's Additional Director General of Police, SPS Parmar told PTI over phone, "It is not a terrorist attack, it is not an attack from outside. It is a fratricidal incident".

 

The Army stated that the incident occurred about 4:30 a.m., and that it deployed quick response teams and closed off the area. It went on to say that all issues, including the probable involvement of an INSAS weapon and 28 bullets reported missing two days ago, are being investigated.

 

This matter in still under investigation and police along with the army are working together to solve this. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also been briefed by Army Chief General Manoj Pande on the Bathinda Military Station firing incident. Apart from this the dead body of the four jawans have also been sent for postmortem with results awaiting.
