First 10,000 E-Cycle Buyers To Get Rs.5,500 Subsidy By Delhi Government

First 1,000 buyers will also get an additional subsidy of Rs. 2,000

New Delhi: On Thursday, Delhi government will provide a subsidy of ? 5,500 each for the first 10,000 buyers of e-cycles in the city, Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot said.

Mr. Gahlot then added, the first 1,000 buyers of passenger e-cycles will also be given an additional subsidy of Rs. 2,000.

The government will also give subsidies on purchase of heavy-duty cargo e-cycles and e-carts for commercial uses, he said. The subsidy on cargo e-cycles will be ? 15,000 each for the first 5,000 buyers.

The subsidy was earlier provided to individual buyers of e-carts but now a company or corporate house buying these vehicles will also be provided a subsidy of ? 30,000, Gahlot said.

Only the residents of Delhi will be eligible for the subsidy scheme, Mr. Gahlot said.

The minister said that presently 45,900 e-vehicles are plying on the city roads, out of which 36 per cent are two wheelers. The percentage of e-vehicles in total registered vehicles in Delhi has crossed the 12 per cent mark, he added.

State governments across the country are now squarely throwing their weight behind the adoption of green technology, including the switch from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles.

Two-wheelers dominate not just urban cities but are widely used in rural areas across the country. The switch to electric two-wheelers can deliver good cost and maintenance benefits to customers in addition to controlling rising pollution levels.

A country-wide adoption of electric vehicles can lead to cleaner air quality across cities and villages in the country.

Given these factors, the central and state governments are now pushing towards electric vehicle adoption while working on improving charging infrastructure and facilities across the country for the same.
