India suspends flights from the UK till December 31.


India suspends flights to and from the United Kingdom (UK) till December 31 on Monday. After the determination of the mutant coronavirus in the UK, the government of India had announced this move to keep the highly infectious strain away. The ban will come into effect from 11:59 pm on December 22.

Multiple countries around the world have already shut their borders with the UK, following this the Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson will be holding a crisis meeting with his ministers.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said “Considering the prevailing situation in the UK, Indian government decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December.” The ministry further added that “A measure of abundant precaution, passengers arriving from the UK in all flights reaching India before December 22 midnight should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR tests on the arrival at the airport.”

The Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan said “there is no need to panic” earlier today assuring the citizens of the country to not worry over the new strain of the corona virus reported in the UK. The minister was present in the Indian Science Festival from where he reported to the media saying “At this time, I would say, do not get hassled with imaginary situations, talks and panic. The government is fully alert. In the last one year, as you have seen the government has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people.”

According to the John Hopkins University the novel coronavirus has infected more than 7.67 crore people and killed over 16.92 lakh people globally. The number of people recovered from the virus is over 4.32 crore. In India the total number of coronavirus is now at 1,00,55,560 after 24,337 new cases were registered in 24 hours. The country’s active case stands at 303639 cases and the total recoveries stands at 96,06,111. The recovery rate was fastened at 95.53% and the rate of mortality at 1.45% .
