Flipkart ties up with Adani Group for logistics, boost Infrastructure, a data hub


Flipkart tied up with Adani Group for logistics, boost Infrastructure, a data hub, etc on Monday. As part of the association, Adani Logistics Limited will assemble a 534,000 sq. ft contentment center in Mumbai that will be rented out to Flipkart to address the growing demand for e-commerce in Western India and support market access of several thousands of sellers and MSMEs in the region.

In the Company's statement, Flipkart will set up its third data center at AdaniConneX’s Chennai facility to meet its growing infrastructure needs with a focus on keeping data locally within India. The center is expected to be operational in 2022 and will have the capacity to house 10 million units of seller's inventory at any point. Also, to make stronger Flipkart’s supply chain armature to support MSMEs and sellers, the facility will enhance local employment and create 2,500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.

Speaking on the strategic partnership between the two companies, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani tweeted, "Homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart is our new strategic partner. In the two-prong partnership, AdaniConneX will build their new Tier 4 data center and Adani Logistics, India's leader in logistics, will build their 534,000 sqft fulfillment center. Thousands of new jobs in Mumbai".

Moreover,  Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, "The Adani Group escorts  a unique mixture of logistics, real estate, green energy, and data center infrastructure capabilities. We are glad to begin our association with the Adani Group to strengthen our supply chain and technology infrastructure ".

However, Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary-General of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said in a tweet that he is disappointed with the Flipkart-Adani partnership. "It is the same Flipkart that is indulging in flouting rules and facing pending investigations and Adani Group is joining hands with killers of small businesses".
