Former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha Dies, Wave of Mourning in Siwan District of Bihar

Ranjit Sinha, former Chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), died on Friday morning. There is a wave of mourning in the entire district with the demise of Ranjit Singh, who hails from Siwan district of Bihar.


Ranjit Sinha, former Chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), died on Friday morning. There is a wave of mourning in the entire district with the demise of Ranjit Singh, living in Siwan district of Bihar. Ranjit Sinha, a retired 1974 IPS officer, has died at AIIMS, Delhi. This Bihar IPS officer held many important positions in his career, including the Director General of CBI and DG ITBP.

On 22 November 2012, he was appointed as the director of the CBI for the next two years. Earlier, Singh headed the Railway Protection Force and served in senior positions in Patna and Delhi CBI. Ranjit Sinha was summoned for trying to influence the investigation into the coal allocation scam while holding the post of CBI director. The CBI was ordered by the Supreme Court to investigate the suspicious role of Sinha, a 1974-batch retired IPS officer. Three months after this order, the CBI registered an FIR against Sinha.
