Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti claims to be under house arrest

Mehbooba Mufti took a dig at the Centre by saying that this has exposed their "fake claims of normalcy."

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti claimed on Tuesday that she has been put under house arrest. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mufti tweeted on her Twitter handle that according to the administration the "situation is far from normal in Kashmir."

Ms Mufti pointed out that the government of India expressed concern for the rights of people of Afghan but "willfully" denied the same to Kashmiris. She took a dig at the Centre by saying that this has exposed their "fake claims of normalcy."

Along with the tweet, Ms Mufti posted two pictures, one showed the locked gate of her house and the other showed an armoured truck parked nearby. Meanwhile, the police said that the PDP leader had been asked not to visit Kulgam today for security reasons, reported NDTV.

The police denied the allegations of house arrest and said that necessary security has been deployed in the area because Ms Mufti is a Z+ category protectee. A senior police official citing security reasons added that she was only advised not to visit today.

Earlier on Wednesday, separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, 91, died after which heavy security was deployed and internet services were suspended to avoid protests and clashes.
