Former Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy not to contest Assembly polls

A list of 14 candidates was announced by the Congress party for April 6 Assembly polls.


Former Chief Minister of Puducherry V Narayanasamy will not contest the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections said Dinesh Gundu Rao on Tuesday who is in charge of All India Congress Committee (AICC) of Puducherry. "Former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will not contest the 2021 assembly elections in Puducherry. He will look after the campaign and election management," Mr Rao said.

A list of 14 candidates was announced by the Congress party for April 6 Assembly polls. The list includes the names of P Selvanadane who will contest from Kathirkamam assembly seat, M Kannan from Indira Nagar, Karthikeyan from Oussudu and Ramesh Preambath from Mahe. The party is yet to announce a candidate's name for one seat.

The Secular Democratic Alliance in Puducherry is headed by the Congress and the party has been allotted 15 of the 30 Assembly seats while its ally, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been allotted 13 constituencies. VCK and CPI, the other constituents of the alliance, have been allotted one seat each. Mr Narayanasamy's government had lost majority at the end of its tenure and he had resigned on February 22 ahead of the floor test.
