Four Congress leaders quit in Wayanad

Wayanad is the constituency of Rahul Gandhi represented by him in Lok Sabha.

Resignation of four senior Congress leaders in Kerala's Wayanad, which is the constituency of former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha, has given a big jolt to the party. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) secretary MS Vishwanathan, DCC general secretary Anil Kumar, KPCC executive committee member KK Vishwanathan and Mahila Congress state secretary Sujaya Venugopal resigned from the party.

However, Kerala PCC’s working president K Sudhakaran and MP K Muraleedharan, who held talks with district level leaders to resolve the crisis that has occurred due to resignations, said all was well and that there would be no exits, reported The Times of India. Vishwanathan quit the party on Wednesday citing failure of leadership in distribution of seats.

Sudhakaran said, "There is a misconception that leaders in Wayanad are quitting en masse. As far as the Congress is concerned, there is no problem. Two of our leaders joined the Left parties. But two CPI(M) leaders have joined the Congress as well." Rahul Gandhi has been campaigning in Kerala and Tamil Nadu ahead of the elections that are to be held in April.
