Two more channels accused of the scam


The tables have turned, the show makers have now become the content. The fall of events on Wednesday Mumbai police crime branch informed that two more TV channels are in the radar now for manipulating the  television rating points (TRP). As the two accused were arrested they informed them that they were paid by these two news channels. The name has not yet been revealed but it is confirmed that one is Hindi News channel and another one is Marathi News Channel.

Ramji Verma and Dinesh Vishwakarma, these are the two accused who were the former employees of Hansa Research Channel along with Umesh Mishra arrested earlier all for ongoing TRP scam. They all are kept in custody for now 3 days and during the long term investigation revealed the names of the two news channels. They said they were paid by them to ask panel homes where Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) meters or BAR-O-meters are attached to TV sets to measure TRPs – to watch their channels.

An officer said, “We are investigating the role of these channels and depending on evidence we find, we will decide whether they are to be charged or not”. As per the ongoing investigation the crime branch has also informed BARC to look for any unusual activity with these new channels, sources informed.

Police, meanwhile, have added IPC sections (174, 179, 201 and 204) related to not responding to an order by a public servant, refusing to answer public servant authorized to question and destruction of evidence to the FIR in the ongoing probe into the ‘TRP scam’.
