Mumbai: On Wednesday, 11 October 2023, Police burst a gang that allegedly sold babies to needy couples. The five persons from Mumbai have been arrested and one from Nashik, police said.

Last month, the gang allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old girl from Malad in Mumbai, taking her to Malwani and Nashik where they wanted to sell her for Rs. 2 lakhs, an official from Kurar police station here said on Tuesday.

As the deal fell through, they returned to Mumbai and left the girl at Dadar railway station, he said.

While police reunited the girl with her family, who lived under a bridge, he said nine teams were formed to catch the accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Irfan Khan aged 26, Salauddin Sayyed 23 years old, Adil Khan age 19, Taukeer Sayyed age 26, and Raza Sheikh, all arrested from Mumbai, and Samadhan Jagtap, arrested from Nashik.

They have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 363 (kidnapping), 370 (trafficking of person), and 34 (common intention) and further investigation is underway, the official said.
