In the northern Indian state of Punjab, Ludhiana at least 11 people have died and 11 have been injured, admitted to hospital after a gas leak, on Sunday. The entire area was being evacuated According to the officials.

 

On Saturday a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed at the site.

 

Bhagwant Mann, Punjab’s chief minister, expressed sadness over the deadly leak.

 

In Giaspura area of Ludhiana, in the factory the incident took place, Mann said in a tweet, "At the spot police, goverment and NDRF teams are present. All required steps will be taken. 

 

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik told reporters the deaths were a likely result of “gas contamination”.

 

In history India was one of the worst industrial disaster site when gas leaked from a pesticide plant in central city Bhopal in 1984. About 3,500 people, mainly locals died in the incident. People still suffer its after-effects now.

 

In the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh, in 2020, a gas leak near a chemical plant killed 11 people and at least 800 were taken to the hospital due to breathing difficulties and irritated skin.

 

 In 2017 in southern New Delhi near the school, at least 200 pupils were admitted to hospital after a gas leak
