Girl Committed Suicide After Her Rape In UP

Police managed to arrest the accused!

Fatehpur, UP: On Wednesday, A teenage girl allegedly consumed poison and died, a day after she was raped by a youth in her village under the Chandpur police station area of the district, police said.

They said the police managed to arrest the youth involved in the alleged rape of the girl on late Tuesday evening.

Fatehpur Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh said on Tuesday, the 15-year-old Dalit girl had gone to answer nature's call in a forest area near her village evening when she was allegedly raped by a youth of her village.

When the girl did not return home till late in the night, her parents launched a search for her and found her in the forest in a state of disarray, the Police said.

Her family members took her to a private doctor and brought her back home after treatment.

The girl, however, consumed some poisonous substance out of despair on Wednesday morning and died during the treatment, the SP said.

He said after registering a case on the complaint of the girl's parents, the accused youth has been taken into custody for questioning.

The girl's body has been sent for post mortem examination, he added.

India has recorded an average of 80 murders and 77 rape cases daily in 2020, National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) report revealed.

With an average of 80 murders daily in 2020, India reported a total of 29,193 fatalities in 2020 with Uttar Pradesh topping the chart among states.

The data showed a marginal increase of 1 per cent over a total of 28,915 murders in 2019, with a daily average of 79 killings during the year.

Among states, Uttar Pradesh reported the maximum of 3,779 murder cases in 2020 followed by Bihar with 3,150 cases, in Maharashtra 2,163 cases were registered, 2,101 cases in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal lodged 1,948 murder cases, the data showed.
