Google Doodle's Today: Google has given a tribute to one of the famous scientists that invented contact lenses - Otto Wichterle. To celebrate the aura and the legacy of the Czech chemist on his 108th birth anniversary, Google Doodle's an animation to dedicate him on Wednesday morning.

Wichterle was born on 27th October 1913 and is best known for the invention of modern eye contact lenses.  He was born and brought up in a Czech family, where his father Karel was co-owner of a successful farm-machine factory and small car plant. However, Otto chose science for his career. After completing his high schooling,  the science lover pursued his graduation from the Chemical and Technological Faculty of the Czech Technical University.  During the 1950s, he developed an absorbent and transparent gel for eye implants.

As an experiment, By late 1961 Wichterle accomplished producing the first four hydrogels contact lenses on homemade equipment built using a children's building kit, a dynamo etc.

After many experiments as an inventor and researcher, he was elected the first President of the Academy of the Czech Republic following the country’s establishment in 1993.

According to Google's Doodle states that "While Wichterle is most well-known as the inventor of contact lenses, his innovations also laid the foundation for state-of-the-art medical technologies such as “smart” biomaterials, which are used to restore human connective tissues, and bio-recognizable polymers, which have inspired a new standard for drug administration. “
