Gopal Rai To Chair High-Level Meeting On Air Pollution

Meeting today!

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai will chair a multi-department high-level meeting on air pollution. The meeting will take place today (Monday).

According to an official, the meeting will include planning a campaign against the open burning of garbage, fires at landfill sites, and dust pollution.

As per the information, the meeting will be held at the Delhi Secretariat around noon and senior officials from the environment department, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, fire services, Public Works Department, Delhi Development Authority, and municipal corporations will be in attendance.

The national capital is on the first and the foremost list when it comes to a hazardous environment, hampering environment, and other areas of the society leading to cleanliness and hygiene. The city witnesses an incessant increment in its pollution level.

According to the statement given by the Environment Minister, Gopal Rai on Wednesday directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to impose a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and take action against officials responsible for a massive fire at the Ghazipur landfill site.

He further said that the government will plan a campaign against the open burning of garbage and fires at landfill sites.

The Ghazipur fire took place on March 28, the flames of which were doused, but the smoldering was still seen at some locations at the site, according to the officials of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). After the efforts of around 100 firefighters, the fire at the garbage mountain was finally put out nearly 50 hours after it broke out. No casualty was reported in the incident.
