Government indulges in dialogue with Genuine Farm Unions

Amid the raging farmers' protests outpouring on the borders of Delhi NCR, the government attempts to gather 'genuine farmer unions' on the negotiation table to discuss the retraction or implementation of newly issued farm laws amendments. Seeking the support of farm unions over three new agriculture laws, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday highlighted the receptive response of farmers among various Indian states but the centre is still making efforts to appease or talk with farmers. The farmers have threatened to seal the Delhi-Noida border today to captivate the government's attention.

Addressing the grievances and demands of farmers, union leaders said the struggle was to put pressure on the government to withdraw the recently passed laws. The irked farmers believe that the fight has reached a stage where winning is the only option to opt for welfare of the community.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition of misleading farmers and urging disharmony and distrust among them and the centre. Opposition backed up the farmers in their protests and centre alleged them of using them as a shield to forward their political vengeance. At an event in Gujarat's Kutch, PM attacked opposition leaders for being envious of BJP's courage to implement the new farm bill amendments which they have only dreamt of. The PM also held meetings with delegations of farmers from Punjab settled in the region and local cultivators, hearing their issues with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

As the rising sun witnessed the protests for the 21st day, protestors want three legislations to be scrapped while the government agreed to involve in dialogue but won't take back the laws. A top source close to proceedings in Krishi Bhawan spoke, "The government is not willing to repeal the laws but opened the option of amendment. The government is ready to edit or change the wordings of the laws in favour of farmers." As the number of protestors surged around the borders, Haryana Police alarmed of the unsustainable circumstances on the borders. Over 60,000 people are camping and voicing their distress, hailing from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of the country.
