Government not going for lockdown in a big way: Nirmala Sitharaman


Amid surging Covid-19 cases in India, Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that the Government is not going for lockdown in a big way. While addressing a meeting with World Bank Group President, David Malpass, she appreciated the initiatives of the international financial institutions to increase the lending space for India to enhance the availability of finance for development. 

"We don't want to arrest the economy" Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while addressing she quoted about the economy and said that "even with the second wave, we are very clear that we are not going for lockdown in a big way, we don't want to arrest the economy. The local level of isolation of patients, or households that have people in quarantines are the methods through which the crisis will be handled, the second wave will be handled, there shall be no lockdown, 

She also focused on the Five pillar strategy of test, track, treat vaccination and #COVID-19  behaviour. Meanwhile, she also discussed India's Covid-19  response as well as the country's large domestic vaccine production capabilities. 

Whereas the Covid-19 situation in India is pathetic, ministers are also testing positive. While Union Minister Santosh Gangwar tested positive on Tuesday, CM Yogi Adityanath tested positive for Covid-19 today.

According to the data given by health ministry around 1,61,736 are the new Covid-19  cases which are reported in one day, while the Covid-19 recovery rate has dropped further to 89.51 per cent.
