Gujarat: 2 dead, 125 rescued after fire breaks out in Surat factory

The fire broke out in the eight-storey building of Viva Packaging, a textile manufacturing unit in the Vareli area of Kadodara at around 4 am.


At least 2 people died while 125 others were rescued after a fire broke out at a packaging factory in Surat district of Gujarat on Monday morning. The fire broke out in the eight-storey building of Viva Packaging, a textile manufacturing unit in the Vareli area of Kadodara at around 4 am.

At least 15 fire engines rushed to the spot to control the blaze. According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rupal Solanki, Bardoli division said that the workers were rescued by the hydraulic crane and some people allegedly jumped from the building to save their lives.

The fire initially started from lower floors and gradually went up, however, the cause of the fire is not known yet. Reportedly, one man died as soon as the fire started spreading while another got trapped in the basement and suffered severe burn injuries.
