Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani Resigns

Today, Indian politician of BJP and CM of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani resigned from the post.

Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani submitted his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat in Raj Bhawan on Saturday. After submitting his resignation, Rupani told Reuters that he was grateful to the BJP leadership for giving him the opportunity to serve as chief minister of the state.

However, he did not give any reason for the sudden move and said that he had served as CM for five years which was a long time. Rupani added that the changing of the guard in the BJP is a natural phenomenon.

"People have put their trust in the BJP repeatedly over the past 5 years," he said. Parliamentary elections will be held in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state next year. Rupani is the third BJP-CM to step down in the past few weeks.

In an address to the press following his unprecedented resignation from a senior post, Rupani said his resignation was in line with the BJP's principle of ensuring equal opportunities for all party workers.

"I am ready to serve in the role the party has assigned me," said Rupani, adding that he is indebted to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
